Original Medicare includes Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance). You can join a separate Medicare drug plan (Part D) to provide prescription coverage.
To help pay out of pocket costs associated with Original Medicare (Such as the Part A hospital deductible or 20% Part B coinsurance) you may also add a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Policy.
Medicare Advantage Plan
Medicare Advantage is a Medicare approved plan available through a private insurance company. These plans offer an alternative to Original Medicare for health and drug coverage. These plans “bundle” Part A and Part B and usually include Part D (Drug coverage)
These types of plans may have lower out of pocket costs than Original Medicare.
Medicare Advantage plans may offer additional benefits such as dental, vision and hearing services.
What plan choices are best for me?
This is where I come in. People entering the Medicare system for the first time can be overwhelmed with information overload. A mailbox full of solicitations each day, phone calls from unknown sales persons or companies and endless television ads featuring personalities from long ago who now are paid endorsers for Medicare products. I am a local independent agent and have lived in Wisconsin my entire life. I do not work for any insurance company. I am appointed with the majority of insurance companies in the area who have a contract with Medicare. My loyalty lies with my clients. When a potential client contacts me, I will schedule an appointment with them. This meeting will usually be in the persons home as this provides a stress-free environment to answer questions and talk about their issues and concerns. After a thorough needs analysis, I will provide plan options that include the benefits and services the person is looking for. Filling out the application is also part of what I do. When it is time to enroll, I will complete the application and submit it to the appropriate company. I also monitor the application as it goes through the process to ensure the enrollment is seamless. After enrollment my job does not end. I am here to answer any and all of my client’s questions and assist them any way that I can.
Reference
Every year the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) sends a publication to Medicare beneficiaries titled Medicare & You. This booklet contains the most up to date information regarding Medicare for that year. I frequently refer to it and is where some of the information here was obtained. This book is state specific. In the back, is basic information about the different Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans available in Wisconsin. Another valuable resource is to visit the Medicare website at www.medicare.gov
